LISCIA is an Italian town of 647 inhabitants in the province of Chieti in Abruzzo at 740 m above sea level, located on the left side of the Treste river, between the Abruzzo hills of Frentani Mountains. It is a characteristic historic center, rich in artistic beauty with important historic buildings and monuments of high cultural value. The place of worship is the church of San Martino, located in via Chiesa. The religious structure dates back to a period prior to 1324-25. The plastered facade has a portal made of stone built by Molise artists in the 18th century. The bell tower has a quadrangular base. Also interesting is the Hermitage of San Michele Arcangelo, a monastic complex located in San Michele district (outskirt the town) from the 18th century. The interior has a single nave with a cave full of stalactites. At the bottom of the cave there is a small altar whose lighting is guaranteed by a small oil lamp. Next to the cave the Marquises d'Avalos built a votive chapel in the 1700s. The altar of the chapel consists of a wooden statue depicting St. Michael the Archangel dating back to the same period. The construction of the statue is attributed to the Neapolitan sculptor Giacomo Colombo. In the Baroque period it was enlarged. However, the cult building, built in front of the cave does not arouse particular signs of architectural interest. The dripping causes pools in which the faithful usually collect water using copper ladles. To the left of the cave there are two small rooms now walled up, probably places of hermitages of the hermits, while two pillars hide the central altar. In Liscia, as in any self-respecting village, the centuries-old traditions of the people are manifested in the events and festivals that are organized throughout the year. Among the most heartfelt and awaited occasions are the celebrations in honor of St. Michael the Archangel, on the 8th and last Friday of May. The porchetta festival in August cannot be missed, accompanied by tasting stands and dancing evenings. In the village we find two grocery stores, a shop for personal and home hygiene, a well-stocked hardware store, post office, bar / restaurant, B&B, hairdresser, bakery, butcher and pizzeria.
