Perched on a hill at the foot of the Majella massif, CASOLI is a town in Abruzzo with medieval origins. The village, with about 56400 inhabitants, on 378 m above sea level, overlooks a breath taking panorama, nestled between the Aventino Valley and Lake Sant'Angelo, an artificial basin considered one of the most beautiful in Abruzzo. Important building in the town is the Ducal Castle, built around a pentagonal tower dating back to the 9th century, where the poet D'annunzio sometimes stayed, so much so that there is a room that has his name. On a side of the Castle stands the Church of Santa Maria Maggiore. Continuing the walk, there are churches, ancient buildings and part of the walls. Descending from the village, you can relax on the shores of Lake Saint Angelo, also called Casoli lake, a natural reserve born in 1958. From the Lake, it’s possible to see the Tower of Prata, built around the 11th century to defend the village. In the town all amenities are available: bank, restaurants, bars, supermarkets.
