MONTAGANO is a municipality located a few kilometers from Campobasso overlooking the Biferno valley. The name most likely derives from montis and aganòs, which in ancient Greek mean "beautiful mountain". The origin should date back to 1039. The town's greatest development took place between the 17th and 18th centuries, especially in the agricultural field. This flowering can be traced back to the Parish Priest Damiano Petrone who gave sinners, as punishment, the task of cultivating the fields. Among the traditions, many are those linked to the country. The biggest celebration is certainly the one featuring the Montagano tomato.
