CUPELLO is a small town located in the province of Chieti, in Abruzzo, situated along the Sinello river among the hills, a few km from the sea and the important Adriatic touristic town of Vasto. It has been an important commune since the early 19th century. A small village of ancient origins, some chronicles date it back to the sixteenth century, whose first settlement does not appear to be surrounded by walls. Currently the town has a lovely historic center, rich in history and culture. Among the countless beauties we can find several churches and historic buildings. The main fortified palaces are Palazzo Marchione, which dates back to the 19th century, and Palazzo Erminio Boschetti with a turret, the first of which is from the 18th century. Among the noteworthy religious architectures we find the Church of the Nativity of Maria SS, located in Piazza Garibaldi. The portal is in carved stone. The bell tower, with a square plan and built in brick, was restored by Giacomo Tornese in 1830 and still shows the signs of the bombings of 1943. No less is the Church of the Madonna del Ponte, also known as the "Old Church", with reference to the ancient church, once located outside the town. The old church, damaged by the bombings of 1943, was demolished and rebuilt in 1956 as it appears today. In addition to the numerous historic buildings, an important testimony of the town's past is the brancatello, the typical external staircase of ancient houses. Cupello is perfect for those who want a moment of relaxation and being in contact with nature, enjoying the countless naturalistic beauties with pleasant walks. The cultivation area of the Carciofo del Vastese comprises the municipality of Cupello, where most of the production is concentrated, and the surrounding municipalities of Furci, Lentella, Monteodorisio, San Salvo and Vasto, where it is also grown in small allotments and family vegetable gardens .
