CASTELGUIDONE is an Italian village of 396 inhabitants, in the province of Chieti, in Abruzzo, at 775 m asl, on a rocky ridge between Lame delle Pesce and Valloncello streams, dominating the Trigno Valley along the border with Molise. It is a suitable place for those who want to be in contact with nature for a relaxing stay. The main village's source of income is agriculture, although a revival in tourism has been attempted in recent years. Although the oldest documentary evidence of its origins dates back to the fourteenth century, the archaeological finds found in the surroundings of the village are much older: among them a Roman villa and some columns of a Samnite sanctuary from the second century BC, which testify to the wealth achieved by the Samnites of this area. In the period of the baronies, Castelguidone, with its fortified structure, had the function of controlling the valley. The remains of the defense walls (Cinta Muraria), between the graceful stone houses and the narrow stepped alleys, still show the various access doors. Another point of interest is the parish church of Santa Maria della Stella. The first plant of the church dates back to the 15th century. Here the body of Santa Clementina is venerated and the feast occurs every year on the last Sunday of September. Its name most likely derives from the landscape it is surrounded by, and in particular from a Germanic term that would indicate it precisely as "town of the woods". For those who come here in June, do not miss the festival in honor of San Vito, the protector, an event particularly felt by all the inhabitants in which there are shows and bands, all accompanied by a particularly suggestive procession.
