Whoever visits the historical centre of FURCI is welcomed by the medieval tower that, supervising the entrance of the fortified village, represents a kind of material and temporal division between the old and the new part of the town. Situated on a hill, the original centre of Furci is surrounded by the ancient walls ruins and it distinguishes itself from the modern part which has been developed over time without incorporating the historical centre. The village experienced its greatest period of splendour during the medieval age, when it was feud of the Oderisio Count. In the 15th century it belonged to the Caldora Family and in the 18th century to the d'Avalos Marquis. The old part of the village is dominated by the Church of San Sabino Vescovo, which stands on a high basement and has a classical style façade. In the new part of the village it is possible to visit the modern sanctuary and the native house of Beato Angelo da Furci, an Augustinian friar and great thaumaturge lived between the 13th and the 14th centuries and who attracts every year thousands of pilgrims, especially during the patronal festivities on the 17th of May and 13th of September. In August the village brightens up during the "pecorara", the sheep festival.
