The refugees, initially grouped and frowned upon, gradually created villages, reclaimed the land, ingratiated themselves with the local lords and obtained houses, territories and privileges, many adapted and assimilated the local language and customs, others jealously preserved their own identity and still guard their identity today, language and customs, as in San Felice del Molise, Montemitro and Acquaviva Collecroce.
