In the heart of Molise, almost on the border with Abruzzo, SALCITO is a small town located on a hilly area bordered by cliffs that stand out in the countryside, of about 640 inhabitants in the province of Campobasso. In the historic center, behind the church of San Basilio, near the ancient (and only) bakery in the town, there is a “pandetta”, a stone embedded in the walls bearing an inscription with instructions for cooking bread in the baronial oven. At the time there was an obligation to pay the tithing to the baron for the use of the oven. To avoid this "exploitation", people invented the cooking method "under the cup" which is a completely Molise method. In honor of San Basilio, patron saint of the Municipality, the traditional blessing of taxis from Rome takes place (many are the Salcitans who have moved to the capital to become taxi drivers, as well as many who have also left from Bagnoli del Trigno). Various, then, are the fairs that take place over the months, especially those of the summer. In the village butcher, grocery, restaurant / pizzeria, pub, bakery, petrol station, greengrocer, bars.
