SAN SALVO is the last town, in geographical order, on the Abruzzo coast. It is located right on the border with Molise, in view of the mouth of the Trigno river. The city rises at 101 meters above sea level, about 5 km. from the coast and has less than 20.000 inhabitants. The area of San Salvo has been inhabited since prehistoric times, its origins date back to the 11th - 12th century by the Benedictine monastic colonization; and it is thanks to them that we owe the reclamation of the entire surrounding area. The town's economy is based on agriculture, livestock and handicrafts. Its territory is divided into suburbs and hamlets, today it has become a modern tourist resort, avant-garde and attentive to the protection of the environment, also being included in the list of the hundred municipalities of "Little Great Italy". The ancient nucleus lies on a hill overlooking the Trigno plain, among olive groves, vineyards and peach orchards, with a splendid view of the Adriatic. San Salvo Marina has developed along the coast, a popular seaside resort with numerous Abruzzo seaside hotels and a few kilometers from the city center, stands San Salvo Marina with a long and wide beach with fine sand. The shoreline slopes gently into the sea from shallow waters. The beach is particularly equipped. This beach has an almost unique feature, in fact, towards the north, it is characterized by the presence of coastal dunes and a coastal biotope has been created to preserve and rebuild the dune environment with its spontaneous vegetation. The "Le Marinelle" tourist port was recently built and offers adequate services to boaters. The city of San Salvo presents itself as an active and sparkling place even in the evening, thanks to the presence of numerous bars and restaurants where you can taste dishes of the Abruzzo cuisine. The seafront of Salvo Marina in the summer becomes an ideal place to go for walks or meet up with friends and where shows and musical events are often organised. For lovers of nightlife there is no shortage of bars and clubs that are open until late at night.
