URURI is an Arbëreshë village in Molise, located at 267 m above sea level, on a hilly ridge about 25 minutes drive from the Adriatic Sea and 68 km from Campobasso. In 1931 had 4138 inhabitants and habitually speaking an Albanian dialect, like those of the nearby villages of Portocannone and Campomarino: they derive from the second settlement of Albanians in southern Italy, while today the inhabitants are 2400. Ururi has a station, 7 km away, on the Termoli-Campobasso railway. In this charming village, agriculture is the main economic resource. Advanced techniques and entrepreneurial spirit characterize the cultivation of wheat, olives, vines and sunflowers, producing delicious derivatives such as high-quality oil and wine. The village develops around an ancient Benedictine Monastery built around the year 1000, dedicated to Santa Maria. Although there are no remains of the ancient walls, it is assumed that the monastery was located in the highest part of the current historic center. The settlement of the Albanians dates back to the second half of the 15th century, after the Ottoman invasion of Albania. The families still present in the village carry on their cultural roots through the Arberesh language, preserved mainly in the oral form. Among the events, the chariot race (La Carrese), the patronal feast of the S.mo Legno della Croce, the Festa dell'Olio and various cultural events stand out. In the village we find: fitness center, grocery stores, supermarkets, pizza restaurants, an indoor swimming pool, bakery, bars and other shops.
