What is really surprising about CARPINETO SINELLO is the impressive and imposing mass of the Ducal Castle, subdivided in different buildings arranged around a small central courtyard. The original plant dates back to the 14th century. Between the end of the Middle Ages and the 16th century, the building became the permanent seat of feudatories and vassals, undergoing a progressive change from defensive construction to residential palace. At the base of the Castle stands the small Church of Saint Michael the Archangel, which is characterized by a beautiful 14th century portal that embellishes the façade. The Pig Museum is situated along the slope that climbs up to the Castle. The exhibition aims to describe the swain's features, as well as flesh processing and its gastronomic history. Many family traditions are kept in the museum: still today, in this 800-inhabitant village, an important part of the economy is based on swine by-products, especially the homemade cold-meat such as the "ventricina". It is possible to go back in time, over four hundred years, when visiting the fortified village of Policorvo, close to Carpineto. This village still preserves its medieval features, particularly visible in the fortified palace with the Church of Santa Vittoria, and in the imposing sloping walls on which farmhouses have been built.
