BOMBA LAKE, a picturesque lake in the Sangro Valley, Chieti, offers a peaceful and refreshing alternative to the beach (but only 30 km from it). It is abundant in activities to do, whether water sports such as: swimming in the lake, canoeing or hiring a pedalo, to trekking, horse riding, mountain biking and fishing, you can never get bored. And if the lake itself is not enough to quench your thirst of adventure, you can always explore the encompassing towns of Bomba, Villa Santa Maria, Colledimezzo and Pennadomo, which are unspoiled masterpieces of Italian architecture, and truly breathtaking. For example the striking settlement of Colledimezzo upon the mount of Castellano, where panoramic views of the lake and the surrounding area can be marveled. At Villa Santa Maria you can find its famous cooking school Istituto Professionale Alberghiero di Stato, Marchitelli, which maintains the tradition of Abruzzese cooking, favored in history and still today, among the likes of Cardinal Mazarin, the Emperor of Japan, President Eisenhower, the royal kitchens Sweden, Jugoslavia, at Embassies all over the world, and of course the best restaurants around the world. Bomba itself is quiet, and full of charming little cobbled streets with rustic buildings, and an outdoor swimming pool. Bomba also offers great locally sourced food shopping and great places to eat or enjoy a coffee with the warm, welcoming and friendly locals.
