LENTELLA is a small hilltop village in Abruzzo with 652 inhabitants and an area of 12.53 km² full of olive groves, at 20 minutes' drive from the beach and 30 minutes' drive from Vasto. The village has Norman origins, with a historic center that still retains much of its medieval appearance. The fortified village, nestled in the rock, is still visible from the valleys below because of its greatness and unity. It is a completely mountainous town and its geographical position is strategic, as it is located on the border with Molise and from a height of 400 meters it controls a large part of the valley where the Trigno river flows. It belongs to the mountain community of Medio Vastese. The origins of Lentella date back to the 12th century and the main activities are breeding and agriculture. Famous in the town is the "lentellese porchetta festival", a true tradition, a food and wine specialty prepared according to ancient recipes. The festival has been held for several years now in the month of August and is a must for anyone visiting the town in this period. In the main square, there is the Church of SS. Cosma e Damiano, built at the end of the 1700s and dedicated to the patron saints of doctors, celebrated since ancient times on 27 September.
