Located on a tuff rock, CASTELLINO DEL BIFERNO has a dominant position over the Biferno valley at 450 meters above sea level with 434 inhabitants. It is a small village where life takes place calmly and serenely and which comes alive in the summer thanks to the festivals and cultural performances, among which the most famous festival is U Pizzichendò, held during the celebrations in honor of Sant'Antonio of Padua: it consists of a characteristic competition between two teams of 13 elements who must form a human pyramid and walk through the streets of the town up to the house of the party committee where, if the pyramid has not fallen, people celebrate with a drink. Worth visiting are the church of San Pietro in Vincoli where we find an ancient baptismal font under the statue of San Giovanni, a beautiful confessional and a precious wooden choir from 1812. In the municipal library it is possible to visit an exhibition of craftsmanship and civilization peasant woman who takes us back to a time and among objects that speak of work, tradition and family. Outside the town we find La Fonte Murata where in ancient times the population went to stock up on water, immersed in the woods in a naturalistic oasis of about 15 hectares, the Oasis is a space in the middle of greenery in which there is an outdoor swimming pool garden, a nursery, a bowling alley, a picnic area and a fountain. As in many towns in Molise, the stonemasons were known here too in the past, of which some of their works remain, including some portals, in white and gray stone, in the centre of the village. In Castellino del Biferno we find bus service, post office, grocery store, bar, bakery, pharmacy and a restaurant.
